This week I had the opportunity and great company to dine on my first ever vegan meal at V-Note at 1522 1st Avenue. According to the website, V-Note was inspired by the creator of Blossom and Cafe Blossom and all of the wines and beers are vegan, organic or bio-dynamic (meaning both the agricultural methods and the handling and processing of the fruit post-harvest) – fascinating!

We selected the Tortoise Creek, “La Verger,” Viognier 2009 from France which features hints of peach, pear and honeysuckle.  The wine perfectly accompanied the entree selections, of which I chose the ravioli in a cashew cream sauce (and brand new to the menu), while my friend dined on the seitan scaloppini (seitan is a.k.a. “wheat meat” made from the gluten of wheat) which featured seitan cutlets in a white wine, lemon and caper sauce finished with mashed potates and sauteed spinach.

To finish off the meal we chose the Blossom cheesecake:

While this didn’t necessarily stack up to some of the real New York City cheesecakes out there, the raspberry dessert sauce made for a nice complement and certainly didn’t seem to matter given the company.

Mmm, all sounds & looks delicious! I haven’t tried V-Note, but I love the vegan restaurant options in this city – I’ll put it on my list of places to try!
I should take you to Pala sometime – they specialize in pizza and with their menu split into vegan/non-vegan, there’s something for everyone!
